News Release: 10/16/2017 Multi-Ethnic Chambers Alliance Announces Endorsement of the $1.05 Billion Austin ISD 2017 (Proposition A) Bond

WHO:  The Multi-Ethnic Chambers Alliance (MECA): The Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, The Greater Austin Black Chamber of Commerce, The Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce, and the Austin Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce
 
WHAT: Join us as we hold a press conference regarding our collective endorsement of the Austin ISD 2017 (Proposition A) Bond. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. followed by formal remarks from the MECA Chamber Presidents at 10:30 a.m. The MECA Chambers have each held forums for their members about the Austin ISD 2017 (Proposition A) Bond where leaders from the school district gave a presentation and Q&A about the $1.05 billion Proposition. The majority of the members of the MECA Chambers suggested that MECA should endorse the bond. As such, MECA is holding a press conference articulating its endorsement.
 
                The AISD  2017 (Proposition A) Bond will ensure that the district has 21st-century learning spaces without a tax rate increase. The proposed bond is $1.05 billion and includes 16 new or modernized schools, and refurbishments in technology, transportation, safety, critical deficiency, fine arts,  LBJ ECHS medical school launch, and more. In addition to there not being a tax rate increase, the bond dollars will stay in AISD and not be subject to state’s recapture system.
