Job Description

As the Project Engineer, you will be responsible for coordination of day to day activities of active engineering projects in consultation with the Project Manager, including coordinating meetings, organizing, and maintaining project documentation, performing research and analysis, creating and maintaining reports, preparing construction drawings, specifications and cost estimates, as needed to carry projects to successful completion from start to end.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform research, analysis and documentation for engineering reports and designs per jurisdictions standards.
  • Design/Calculate for utilities, water & wastewater, land development and/or traffic control projects
  • Prepare & revise detailed construction drawings including maps and exhibits, utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D software and other available tools per jurisdictions standards.
  • Coordinate project tasks with the project team, track schedules, deadlines and milestones
  • Assist Project Manager with coordination of subcontractors, vendors and independent contractors
  • Attend & facilitate meetings, and site visits as needed
  • Assist the Project Manager with permitting services tasks and coordination
  • Assist the Project Manager with preparation of quantity take offs, cost estimates and construction documents
  • Facilitate communication between project team, project manager, client, contractors and reviewers
  • Assist the Project Manager with Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes
  • Assist the Project Manager with management of resources, schedules, budgets and billings
  • Train and Mentor staff as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Core Competencies

  • Knowledge of City of Austin and surrounding areas, State, and Federal construction and design policies and standards
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook Microsoft project software
  • Strong problem solving, time management, and communication skills
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities
  • Strong organization skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with coworkers, clients and the public


Bachelor's in Civil Engineering of an accredited university is required

Master's in Civil Engineering is preferred


Minimum 2 years of land development,water and wastewater and/orutilities project experience is required

4 years of land development, water and wastewater and/or utilities project experience is preferred

Certifications & Licensures

Engineer in Training certification in the State of Texas is required

P.E. license in the State of Texas is preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $54,000.00 to $64,000.00 /year
