You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and Small Business Saturday, haven’t you?
Well, we thought it would be only fair to add an LGBT day to the mix — Austin LGBT Business Day. The first-ever Austin LGBT Business Day will be observed Saturday, April 28.
“The fight for economic equality takes a village. Austin LGBT Business Day highlights the LGBT-owned and LGBT-allied businesses that are striving to make that village economically stronger and more inclusive,” says Edgar Gierbolini, president and CEO of the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce.
What’s going to happen on this day? This relatively informal occasion encourages Central Texans to recognize Austin’s LGBT-owned and LGBT-allied businesses by visiting them — and spending money there.
As we pointed out in a recent blog post, LGBT-owned businesses in the Austin area are a powerhouse. Our estimates show these businesses wield a potential economic impact of $11.77 billion. That impact will continue to grow if we, as a community, put our money where are values are.
While we’re not endorsing one business over another, we do want to provide a sampling of the LGBT-owned and LGBT-allied businesses in Austin where you can contribute to the health of the LGBT business community.
Again, this is just a sampling of LGBT-owned and LGBT-allied businesses in Austin. Visit austinlgbtchamber.com/members to locate a business where you can show your support on Austin LGBT Business Day (or any other day, for that matter).
