We have a new program at Hospice Austin called the GIFT (Giving Instructions for Tomorrow) Project. It has nothing to do with hospice services. The entire purpose of the grant is to provide free education about Advance Care Planning and to help people feel comfortable talking about what they would want if they found themselves in a position where they could not speak for themselves, i.e., car accident, life limiting illness, etc. We have nurses, social workers, chaplains as well as myself that have provided several presentations and the feedback we have gotten from people that have attended is that the information has been extremely beneficial. Again, the purpose is just to provide education about what Advance Care Planning is and help people to initiate conversations with their families and loved ones about what they would like to happen if they are unable to speak for themselves. I just wanted to see if there would be an opportunity to provide some information to you and your members. We also have nurses, social workers and chaplains that can help people fill out their advance care directives, after the presentation or at a later date, if that is something they would like to do.
